Seven Emotional Health Tips for Confinement

In the same way that contact with nature has determined its therapeutic qualities for our emotional balance (for example, through the ‘forest baths’), the long confinement that the crisis of COVID-19 will impose may have the opposite effect if we do not take the appropriate measures. Any confinement can be detrimental to our psychological health, but this phenomenon becomes a relevant specific update when the quarantine is lived in solitude. Various studies alert to symptoms such as depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, irritability and mental exhaustion. Social integrator Paula Carpintero proposes various strategies to stay emotionally healthy.

1.- Assume and accept the reality we are living. It is possible to live a phase of denial, but we must internalize that being recruited at home is a gesture of civility and responsibility that contributes effectively to the common good, especially with regard to the most vulnerable population.

2.- Maintain contact with our loved ones, taking advantage of the technological tools that we have at our disposal. It is convenient to share the way in which we are coping with the situation, but avoiding to uselessly feed fears and concerns among ourselves.

3.- Avoid “infoxication”, both on social networks and on television, radio, etc. The information overload hinders our ability to differentiate true and false data, and favors the obsessive and negative thinking that only the masculine interior generates.

4.- Take advantage of this forced confinement to do everything that lack of time usually prevents us from developing: reading, cooking, organizing, decorating the room, learning to play a musical instrument, meditating, writing, exercising at home …

5.- Take care of our physical health: exercising at home, maintaining a balanced diet, sleeping the appropriate number of hours, taking baths with relaxing music, and sunbathing when possible, even if it is in the window or on the balcony.

6.- Try not to set deadlines to the situation we are experiencing. If we set dates and then don’t stay, this frustration will be a source of great anxiety. And if it turns out that everything ends sooner than we think, we will experience a fantastic feeling of liberation.

7.- And finally, if necessary, ask for professional help. These days there are many psychologists who have offered to collaborate selflessly, either online or by phone. If it detects that the situation overflows you, do not hesitate to contact

Team Building in a zip line circuit

Team building outdoor in the forest

Every year the demand for adventure activities for companies increases. Both large companies and small work groups have discovered that organizing such events regularly is very positive for the internal dynamics of organizations, improving corporate competence and the sense of belonging to a team.
One of the most frequent activities in this field are the zip line circuits, a specialty that has a lot to do with adventure sports, and that encourages the development of useful skills for the job. These types of events are usually complemented by training seminars, business lunches, coaching sessions or even more commercial meetings. An adventure park can become the ideal place to develop all these types of activities.

Basically, the idea is to go through a circuit of zip lines in height, from tree to tree. Participants are usually equipped with a safety harness tied at the waist, with two carabiners and a pulley that is placed on a cable. The sensation experienced is similar to that of flying, once the participant jumps and glides through the zip line. When the next tree is reached, the person disconnects from that cable and connects to the next one, and so on until the whole circuit is finished.

The experience can be very interesting for various reasons. The first is to check the reaction of a group if it is being evaluated. There are several aspects, such as the initiative or the fear of launching into the void, which denote the degree of trust that each person has. In addition, these events serve to encourage team collaboration and motivation in the field of business. Precisely, the possibility of holding this type of meeting away from the work environment has demonstrated its ability to create a climate that allows different sensations to be expressed, which sometimes allow discovering innate talents that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

Urban forests and global warming

Park in lujiazui (Financial centre) Shanghai, China

The British Forestry Commission, supported by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, has made public an investigation into the potential of urban forests to replace air conditioning in cities. Their results reveal that areas with a high tree density are up to 4 degrees colder than places in the same city without vegetation.

The beneficial effects of urban forest lungs (walks, gardens, zip lines parks, etc.) were specifically known: they fight the climatic emergency, harbor biodiversity, have the capacity to reduce fires, capture carbon dioxide, host millions of species, They participate in the global food chain, improve air quality, promote good mental health …

However, the Forestry Commission researchers have gone a step further, demonstrating that multiplying urban parks could reduce air conditioning in cities by up to 13%, saving 22 million pounds a year and greatly reducing the footprint of carbon The resulting data is especially relevant considering that the Meteorological Office has recently predicted that the United Kingdom could experience four heat waves of more than 30 degrees in 2050 in the year. Indeed, trees help cool their environment through a process called evapotranspiration , which causes the water produced during breathing to evaporate from the leaves of the trees, cooling the air.

The research has also identified some of the most specific forest species for local concentration in London, such as the London Plane Tree, the Sessile Oak and the Cherry Tree. Experts also recommend placing them in areas where people can walk or sit under their shade, as well as plant additional foliage that protects homes and other buildings from the sun.
